Hi Everyone,

I've only been a Seller on ArtYah since early June, so still fairly new.  I'm a pretty patient person and totally understand this is a newer site and there is still lots to be done.

To date I've had one sale.  I believe there are a few reasons for low sales for some of us and I'm really just looking for feedback and input.

Please, this is not a 'Rant about ArtYah' post.  I truly believe this will be an awesome site once all the pieces come together.  The question is, how many of us can wait?

Here are my thoughts:

1. I'm a Canadian seller and list in CAD.  Anyone viewing from another country only sees my prices in CAD.  They have no idea what the cost of the item or shipping will be in their currency.  I believe many potential buyers are just moving on to a shop that lists in their currency instead of looking up the conversion rate.  I have brought this up to Craig twice and he has said he will look into have the ability for each user to set their currency so they will see listings in their currency - like it works on the other site.  I guessing US sellers, listing in USD, are likely seeing more sales than those of us from other countries - simply because the US is the largest market and they are seeing the majority of items in their currency.

2. When I try to search for anything, it simply doesn't return the proper results.  There might be a few of the proper matching items on the first page, but then the rest of the pages are filled with items that have no relevance at all.  Then numerous pages later there will be more items that are actual matches.  As a buyer, I would just move on.  I've seen replies from Craig saying that Search is working as expected.  Does anyone have any thoughts or actual details on this because it is definitely not working.

3. Categories - I have asked for a few more categories two or three times now and was promised they would be added.  They are categories that I know others would use as well (I certainly don't expect ArtYah to create every category every user might desire).  So far they haven't been added and I can't list certain items without them.  With search not working, if they aren't in the property categories they have absolutely no chance of being found.

So, bottom line, I haven't listed anything new for  some time now - either because there isn't a relevant category or because I just don't think my items are going to sell based on #1 and/or #2 above.  I'm also not sure if I'm going to renew my items as they start to expire next week.

Like I said, this isn't meant to be a negative post, so please don't jump all over me.  I'm simply looking for feedback, information, suggestions etc.

Looking forward to some constructive discussion.

Thanks,
Darcy

I agree with you about search. When I type search terms into the search bar I get a mix of items. Some match what I was looking for  and most don't. It is a mixed bag of items. This is a problem. I use the categories, I have better luck that way.

I also think not having a cart is a problem. Most shoppers want this feature when shopping.

I know Craig is busy and maybe that is why he hasn't added the categories you asked for yet.

I didn't see your post as negative. [smile]

I agree with some of your points but am really hoping that when the site is upgraded to the new design the categories will be sorted out, and the search tweaked, it seems to be set up for single word searches at present

Currency; it only shows the sellers home currency in the search pages but it shows home currency and dollars on the individual item pages.

I agree CozyCreations with the Search not being very relevant. I know it's being worked on, but hope it's updated soon.

And yes, Catwands that Cart will surely help! Especially with the Season almost upon us, people will probably be wanting to buy more than just 1 item and a Cart is almost a 'must have' to keep the traffic in our shops.

Still rooting for ya Craig!!!

And Cozy I didn't view your post as negative either. Just concern. Blessings.

Thanks for your feedback @Catwands and for confirming my post didn't come across as negative.

I agree a cart is important too!

I know to use the categories as well, but when there aren't categories that fit what you want to sell, that just adds to the problem.  I believe, and I could be wrong, that most shopper search by term and not categories.  I'm only saying that based on the stats from the other site over the past 4.5 years - very few views originate from categories.

Hi Christine,

Thanks for your feedback.

With respect to the currency, it appears ok to those of you who are in the US.

When I look at anyone's listings I see them in the currency the shop listed them in and that  price is in also converted to USD.  So - $14 EUR ($16.09 USD)  I don't see the price in my currency.

That's the issue - the prices don't appear in the users currency unless you are in the US.

Ideally, everyone should see the price and shipping cost in their own currency.

I list all my products in US dollars even though I am in Canada. I assume any sales I may get will come from the States given the bigger sales base and that ArtYah is promoted in the US but not so much in Canada.

Sherry,  I know that's an option, but I prefer to have my items in my own currency.  That's how I run my shop on the other site and it's just my preference.  I totally understand there may be some benefits to listing in USD, but as sellers we should be able to list in our own currency and have buyers see the pricing and shipping costs in their own currency.

Even though you list in USD, you could be losing out on sales to other countries, assuming you ship outside Canada and the US, simply because they have no idea what your item and shipping is going to cost them.

Anyway, I'm just hoping some of these things get taken care of, but especially search.

Have a fabulous evening.

Wouldn't that be the same for any country though? If you list in Canadian dollars, someone in Norway doesn't know how much the item costs in their currency. I use US currency as it is a standard across the financial markets that many people are familiar with.

I agree search and especially categories desperately need to be fixed.

You have yourself a wonderful evening as well. I am starting a new nebula painting tonight so that always makes my day.

I'm in Canada and I also sell in U.S. funds - on both sites.  I haven't had any problems yet, after many, many years of online selling.

I have just updated my signature to show where I am from as Darcy is not the first person to assume I am from the US [biggrin]

We know there are some major changes coming to the site and all efforts are going into that so I can understand that they would not want to waste time and money trying to edit something that is in the process of being updated and I think we will have to try and be patient until it is released.

When I see something in US dollars I can usually make a rough guess at what it would be in sterling - or I can use one of the online convertors to get an even better idea
