Justmetoo, for shops that mainly sell for the Holiday season , The Holiday shopping may not have started yet.  I agree sales are slower here than what I had hoped for, but they were also slow for us on the other site until the first Holiday season (late November / early December).  After that first year we saw steady growth each year.
The fees here are low enough that one or two sales every 4 months can cover the cost to stay listed here.

How do you do on Ebay? I used to be on there but when I went to Etsy I closed up shop there. Been thinking about it again. The only problem is that it is so expensive

hooknsaw.  It all depends on what you want out of your business.  If you only care about breaking even, that's great, and many people do it as more of a hobby.
There's certainly nothing wrong with that!
I, however, treat mine as a serious business, so one or two sales every four months just doesn't work for me.  I'm used to a few sales nearly every day with
an online shop!
Barb.  I'm surprised that you find etsy expensive!  I think .20 every four months is REALLY cheap - but of course, only if you're selling.  I guess ANY rate would get
pricey if you're not doing so well.  I know I much prefer .20 there with lots of sales to .10 or even .05 here and no sales!

Barb.  Oh, pardon me!  You're right, of course.  I thought you meant etsy.  Ebay is too expensive which is why I left there as well!

Justmetoo, I do take my business seriously and I look at artyah as (hopefully) a future handmade platform for us.  We have only been here 3 months, but I will give the site through the end of next year and reevaluate then.  One or two sales every 4 months will cover the costs to stay listed without any out of pocket for us.
We sell really well (now) on etsy but it took time to get to where we have consistent sales.

That may be true, but does it cover the hours and hours of time spend listing hundreds items and then going back to add tags or something?

Lesley Fry.  Thank you.  I agree!

I think that if it's a hobby, then the time factor doesn't matter as much.  If it's a business, time matters very much (or should)!
If I'm going to spend countless hours on listings, I want a return, especially after the site being here for well over a year now.

Thank you Barb.  Your kid pillows are adorable!

Lesley, I started on artyah during the summer (our slow season), knowing it would take hours to get the listings active.  I imported and edited listings which was fast to do, BUT it was Very time consuming going back in to add tags and International shipping.  We remake most of our items when they sell so a single listing (on etsy) often brings in 10 - 20 sales or more without having to be changed (so no time spent on it).  I considered the time it would take before I joined artyah and that it might take time to see a return.

Justmetoo, I have always had the mindset that time is money with business.  And you are correct, I see mine as a hobby / business and I am a little more relaxed with this business.

Wishing everyone well and that sales pick up for everyone here!
