Woke up to a hellacious ruckus this morning. Miss Ashley, a new mommy cat, was chasing the dog. Apparently, Java thought he could play with the new babies like he plays with Kensi, our calico. Sad to say that we lost Hettie because he didn't realize he had to be gentle. I really don't believe he meant to hurt Hettie but he wanted to be a good uncle and play with her.
Ashley proceeded to kick his A$$ out of our room. And Ziva & Kensi also got in on it. With no interior doors, we are trying to figure out how to keep Java away from Gibbs, Sam, and Abbey. Or if we should just sleep in shifts. And while I know it isn't really funny, I did find it somewhat interesting watching a little 5-7# momma cat whoop the crap outta a husky mix many times her size. __________________ Shop: http://www.artyah.com/seller/primitiveriches Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Primitive-Riches-484076925273239 Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/ PrimitiveRiches Instagram1: http://www.instagram.com/ primitiveriches

That is very sad -- but mommy cats are fierce protectors of their young, and dogs just want to have fun. Maybe you could get a large pet cage for Java to sleep in at night. My daughter and also a neighbor do this to keep their dogs from roaming in the house at night and the dogs seem to like it and go willingly into the cage when it's time for bed. Perhaps that would help

What about using a baby gate?

This is too sad. My Edmund (died a few months ago aged 17) used to pick a fight with Minnie Cat. Minnie has her claws and he did not. He always came out the loser with scratches etc. I am sure that your dog did not mean to be hurtful.

All excellent suggestions except for the lack of funds at the moment. Wish my kids lived closer. Then I could use a baby gate (16 grandkids - 13 here and 3 angels).

Awww, poor kitten, hope it was fast. I have used chairs, cardboard boxes filled with books as well as doggy stair-gates to separate certain animals at need. My current stair-gate is designed for dogs and cats being higher than child gates and has a cat flap in the bottom and its brilliant but in the past I have used all sorts of things. Can you create a half door, maybe with scrap timber (pallet), hinges and a catch? It depends on how determined your husky is.
