I was just reading about 17 business that Amazon is destroying and 1 of them listed is Etsy ,so Amazon may be part of our problem with getting sales here too.

Perhaps Amazon can "destroy" Etsy because Etsy is an Amazon "want-to-be". If Artyah stays true to the platform of authentic handmade and authentic antique, art, and vintage items, then Artyah will stand alone as a trusted diamond among the big box sellers. There could well be a comeback to the niche market place. Because our market is special. it will make the customer feel special also.

Surprised and disappointed that Amazon took 1st place in the eCommerceBytes Marketplace Survey results. Over 10,000 sellers responded. With the many complaints and disappointments I've read about from handmades sellers who gave it a try, I'm surprised that so many voted and gave high marks to that site.

Just last week I read where a seller got bad feedback from a buyer because of how her order was packaged and shipped. The seller commented that Amazon required her to send the order to their warehouse first, and they shipped it to the buyer. It was jewelry, and the buyer said it was in a plastic baggie, not even wrapped and padded.

Yes, this seems to be the justification for the comparison to me. Etsy moved away from the one-person or family maker, which opened the door for a variety of maker types. They expanded in a way that hurt most handmades sellers there, and filled the site with a lot of different stuff. Amazon is full of all types of stuff.

they are taking the handmade business away from the other online venues.

And it is not just going to hurt Etsy. It will hurt all of the other ones too

Even though Amazon won the eCommerceBytes Marketplace survey, I have to remember though that the survey is not restricted to handmades sellers. It is for all sellers. I always forget that. That is why Amazon won. People who sell other stuff, even resellers, and there are a lot of those, came out to vote for that site. Same with eBay and Bonanza. If only handmades sellers had been allowed to vote, Amazon would not have won. Not enough handmades sellers there. Many that are there are unhappy and disillusioned with it.

If someone conducted a handmades survey, the picture would be very different.

I agree totally Barb. If it would have been left up to handmade sellers only allowed to vote some sites wouldn't even have been in the running.
