Hi All, I was sent this link and I find this to be a very interesting discussion. I would like to get people weighing in on this (if possible). It seems there is a web site that appears to be "hosting" sellers items with or without their knowledge. Then if an item sells they let the sellers know that an item sold. Like a broker. I am a little confused about how all this works. I am also confused if people actually know their items might be used without their discretion. Here is the link to the site along with the discussion in the E forum:homemadepieces.com/ https://www.etsy.com/teams/7722/discussions/discuss/18558896/page/1 Craig ArtYah customer service

I believe this is a scam to gather credit card information. It certainly is not a legitimate site.

I've read a couple different threads about it. In one thread the OP said they had contacted her about it and she agreed to work with them. If an item sells there then it is bought from the seller on etsy and when the site gets it they send it to the customer. If anything goes wrong with the shipping to the customer it is the sites problem to resolve. The etsy seller is not involved with that. The etsy seller is considered a vendor and has their name on the site as such. In the other one everyone was up in arms about it and requesting that the site remove their items and name from there.

Visted homemadepieces.com/ and the website is taken down. It was a GoDaddy site with a Shopify cart. Some of the sellers at that E discussion said the seller has made them into drop-shippers for their own products. I would not want anyone doing that with my products. No copying my listings, no selling my products without my permission. That's just not right, period. Some sellers said they'd maybe be glad to get sales from anywhere. Some said that if people were willing to pay the inflated prices at that site, they the prices in their shop were too low. Unfortunately, there is so much to watch for now, and it's not getting any better. Very discouraging, and makes you want to desert ecommerce. I'm not ready to give up yet, though. I really like online selling and I won't be pushed out by dishonest people. Similar to the annoying thing that some eBay sellers are doing. I order from eBay, and the product comes from Amazon, because that seller bought it at Amazon and dropped-shipped it to me. If I got the product that I wanted what is the problem you ask? It's just not right. I did not get the product that I ordered, because I never read that Amazon listing and I never had a chance to research that Amazon seller. I usually research the sellers. I wasn't given that chance. I expected my order to come from the seller at eBay, whom I approved for my order. It's just not ethically right to do that, and I don't know if eBay and Amazon have approved this procedure. Once I wasted so much time searching for my order record on Amazon, for a product that I finally discovered I had not ordered from Amazon in the first place. I was confused and frustrated. I needed to contact the seller or there was something else that I needed to do. The order had come in an Amazon box with an Amazon packing slip. Because I order from several places, I assumed I'd ordered it at Amazon. I was angry and felt that I'd been tricked. The eBay listings should state that they are doing it like that. If I could filter out those offending sellers I would. I do bookmark a seller into my bad list when that happens.

Thanks Craig for making us aware of this situation. I read the posts and the site has been taken down. One of the suggestions I totally agree with is putting a statement on every item listed - ""This listing is available on Amazon only. If you are seeing the item in any other site it is a scam. Please only purchase thru AMAZON." ??? " In our case we should replace "Amazon" with "Artyah." It is a lot of work, but necessary in these scammish times. What are your thoughts?

I think it's a good idea to do, because any measures taken can help to crack down on this type of thing. It might be too time-consuming for products that I have simultaneously listed on 1+ sites. Two considerations should be taken in account also:Being careful to not shoot self in foot while trying to protect self. Adding that statement on an Etsy listing, while forgetting that product is also listed at Artyah or/and other venues could deter an ArtYah purchase. If a shopper should see the ArtYah listing, and remember what the Etsy listing said, they could think that the AY listing is the offender and that someone is misusing AY. They may run from making a purchase at AY. If for some reason you should decide to give a seller permission to do this (as some Etsy sellers jokingly proposed) then all of those listings where the statement was added would have to be re-edited to remove it. Important to think long-term.

As we know the site was taken down...and there are probably 50 more taking its' place as we speak. It absolutely sickens me that these 'human bottom feeders' are ripping off fellow Sellers' hard work AND making a fast buck then running for the hills to set up shop under another name. (sigh)

That's why there is a limit to which I'll go to fight these things. If I want to continue with an online presence, and I do at this time, I have to endure some of this. It's a shame, and it's even sickening. Once we admit it, we move on. I won't spend all of my precious time to fight them, and I won't be forced away from what I love. I'll find a new way, here and there, to protect myself a little more, and press on!

There are websites that teach their customers how to make money selling on ebay but selling items from Amazon and marking the price up. Yes, there are a lot of ebay sellers who do this. When I called ebay to ask about it they said it was not against their policies. Amazon Prime also allows Prime members to use their accounts to participate in using the free shipping to ship their items to the ebay customer. Knowing this information I know to check Amazon before buying any new items from Amazon. Also Walmart and several other sites allow the same practices and the seller can sign up for a free shipping account with Walmart as well. Yes it doesn’t seem fair but it is not against ebay’s Policies. The only thing I can recommend is to a web search for any new merchandise sold on ebay before buying it from the seller. Their are sellers who do buy their on stock and their prices usually reflect the going price of the item. Like Barnum Bailey said there is a sucker born every minute.

I'll have to be wary of ordering from eBay from now on, unless I can be somewhat sure that the product originates from the seller. I can also query the seller as well, which would be worth my time. I stopped ordering from Amazon some time ago, when I found out that their prices are almost always much higher than elsewhere. I bought a new desktop through eBay, and later found that Amazon was selling it for $100 more. Used to order from Amazon automatically. Glad I stopped. Basically, when I order from a seller anywhere I want to receive the product that the seller's product description shows. I'm not asking for that seller to source a product for me (unless I'm buying from a picker), or to have it drop-shipped (unless I'm buying from a drop-shipper). This practice that we are discussing is not acceptable to me, because I'm being sent something that I did not buy. It's from another site and listed by another seller, so technically it's another product. It may even be from a seller from whom I prefer NOT to buy. I do keep a no-go list of problem sellers. I might be confident in the handling and packing of the seller from whom I order, but I know nothing about the seller from whom it is shipped. There might be important considerations that would cause me not to order from the intermediate seller, yet I'm being sent a product from that seller without my approval. I don't like it at all, but if the majority of sellers go to this process, I'll have no choice. I hope this practice does not become widely popular. I hate the way that some sellers come up with all types of ways to make money, while stepping all over the rights of others.
