What do you think about human models for one off hats and scarves etc?  Does it bother you at all if a brand new hat you have purchased for yourself or a gift has been worn by someone else to model it for sale?

Some of the photos in pattern designs where human models are used look great but there is something about the thought of someone else wearing a hat before me that just puts me off a little, I know it happens in shops but for handmade ?

Wow Christine, I never even thought about that. I've been feeling sorry for myself that I don't have models and have to rely on mannequins.

I resorted to mannequins first for a lack of ready humans, but cleanliness and the ability to take photos any time I want also figure in. I just wish mine weren't bald. Should I make a wig from yarn?

I think items on models look beautiful BUT that is just plain NASTY to wear earrings, scarves, necklaces or whatever after a model.  When I see something featured on a live model, I immediately skip rest of shop.

Lesley.  Perhaps buy a nice wig for the mannequin.  I prefer mannequins to real people for displays.  I had just a "head" one for terry turbans I used to sell.  I painted her skin colour, and gave her painted on lipstick,
and clear nail polish over her lips to make them glossy.  False eyelashes, etc.  She turned out very pretty, and made the turbans look great!

I am so relieved to see that I am not the only one who dislikes the idea of pre-worn items, even if it is just for modelling them.   I bought some mannequin heads and a wig for the female one and a body one, now all I have to do is sell some of my items to pay for them [frown][crazy]

I don't use human or canine models.  I did use my dog in my bandana photo but the one he's wearing is his. I have another one exactly like it for sale.

I do have a friend who had breast cancer and bought 2 wigs she never wore. I'll see if she has plans for them. The paint is a good idea, too. Thanks. I really try not to take eyes away from what I'm selling so I'll see about the wig first.

Yep, plastic head for me too! Like Lesley mine is also bald (and I also think it is male) but I think if I put make up on it it may look like a clownâ˜ș. I also have an ex shop display torso which works well for scarves, shawls etc.

I vote for mannequins too. Real models tend to make women self-conscious if they're too beautiful or they feel turned off if they can't identify with her (other race, very different facial features than theirs, different body type, etc.)... Always found it strange when I read on blogs that pictures with real models sell more. Just think about what big firms doing in their stores: they use monochrome egghead mannequins or ones with very little facial features for not distracting the customers from the piece they're selling!

some time back I read in a forum that some ladies don't like to wear jewelry that was shown on a live model so I got a mannequin.

Well done, Julie! I bought one for my shop as well... I just have no idea how to bring her out to work because she's taller and almost heavier than me!!! [rofl]
