As Et have really blurred the lines in this crafting "industry" with their definition of mass produced, factory made, items being handmade if the original designer had a little input anywhere along the line should we differentiate ourselves here at ArtYah by using homemade more than handmade?

In the UK we usually use homemade (or home-made) for food but it can equally be used for other items made in the home.

What do others think, is it worth having a blast on Social Media using Homemade ?

Personally, I don'y like homemade for crafting.  To me, it was made by the hands and therefore should be handmade.  Just my thoughts.

Handmade, to me, sounds special. Someone put their heart and sole into creating something special that is not mass produced. Homemade sounds like something anyone can do at home, and often, not very well. It may be full of love, but not necessarily something you would want to buy.

Hi Christine:

I like handmade or handcrafted for crafts and artwork. Homemade to me, and as you say, seems most suited for edible products, food, kitchen and household mixtures, even health and beauty mixtures, that sort of thing.

When I see a seller list their crafted products as homemade, I feel like Lesley described above. Unfortunately, that term used in that context makes me feel like the seller has done their products a disservice, especially if they are well-made and high quality.

Actually, homemade is a sweet and endearing term that gives me a warm-and-fuzzy, cozy feeling. I just don't know how to get over my impression that the use of the word with hand-crafted products indicates an inexperienced, new seller. Also, it's not that I wouldn't buy from a seller who uses that description. I'd just evaluate their work more closely and probably judge it more critically, even though there may not even be a need for that.[confused]

A very interesting question that I'm glad you asked.

Actually, I like the term hand crafted even better than hand made.

"Handmade by an artisan of his craft in his workshop that is the garage of his home."

Yeah, too long isn't it.
