Any idea on when the new site will be ready. Right now would be the perfect time for a new launch

Etsy just announced a fee hike. The final value will increase from 3.5% to 5% and the shipping will be included in that. I just figured it on an item and that will almost double the final value fee.

A lot of folks will be made enough to leave so this would be the perfect time for a new launch and Grand Opening

It is a 43% fee hike. More, because it is now levied on shipping too. Everyone will just raise their prices.

THIS ^^^

Summer is around the corner. I'm expecting and looking forward to the new launch come summer. That was the last that I read from an update by Craig. I hope it is not at the end of summer, but at the beginning.[thumb]

This will make etsy a lot more expensive than ebay for me due to their listing fee per item, (I pay ebay 10p a month for as many identical items as I can sell as I have a shop there, etsy is 24 cents (at whatever the conversion rate is) per single item. it was touch and go before but this will push them over the edge to be more expensive.

What we need now is everyone on etsy to put their prices up - and it will have to be by more than the percentage of the increases to break even and then sell here at the existing rate and have a big advertising push that it is more economical for customers to buy here than elsewhere.

We need the new platform for an excuse to have a Grand Re-Opening and massive advertising push and with Craig giving interviews to the business blogs/papers etc.

I just read the announcement and WOW I am floored.
I guess it is time to hope ArtYah can get things in gear.

Did you also read this..........................
"If you’re happy with the services you currently use on Etsy, you can still access all the tools that are currently available to you without paying a monthly subscription fee. But if you want to do more, we’ll be offering two new plans: Etsy Plus, with tools to help businesses grow and express their unique brands, will be available in July. Etsy Premium, with more advanced tools for larger-scale businesses, will launch in 2019."

Edited to add:  I will definitely be raising my prices as I won't make anything with paying 5% FVF on my pieces and shipping.
Then to top it off they are going to have tiers that we can pay for (to get all the new goodies I am sure).........................................

Yeah, I think I read that Etsy Plus will be $10 monthly until 2019, when it will increase to $20. They haven't announced a fee for Premium.

I read in one Q & A that your placement in Search will not be affected by whether you pay the monthly "prime" fees or not. Should think that makes no sense as those buying in will want lots of advantages to justify the added expense???

Let's go ArtYah. ;-)

If you raise your prices, the selling platform will just get a bigger cut. It's a losing game for all sellers. Charging 5% on shipping, though. Wow. Double whammy right out the gate.

The bigger question is, will ArtYah do the same and raise their fees to match? It's been my experience in other fields, that if one company makes a large change, the other companies in the field follow shortly after. If this happens, I may have to cease using online selling platforms and try to sell through FaceBook. I'm coming up on 2 years of using several different online selling platforms with zero sales on all of them. At some point, I will have to cut my losses.

You and me both. But I do it to have something to do. I am not the kind that can just sit around and am not able to go out and get a job at my age so depend on this to keep going.

Today's announcement on Etsy is a huge kick in the pants.. their $10/mo tiered plan does not benefit at all.. for that money (& then up to $20 in Jan) only gives you a banner (which is already there).. listing credits(only 15).. links to packaging ect(which I use Vistaprint & buy locally or at Hobby Lobby/Walmart)... and $5 towards advertising(I self promote).. and a web address(you can buy this for $20/yr).. at $20/mo that's $240/yr ... add 5% on top of that for each sale.. that's utterly ludicrous--it  does nothing to help your store in search results or to direct traffic..AND when they release the premium tier.. you have to pay for someone to talk to.. here you don't!! Already a huge plus!!

.. hoping Art Yah will finally have the chance it deserves.. I expect a huge influx in the next couple of months.. hope Art Yah is ready! .. PLEASE don't go down the Etsy/Ebay route.. Please give sellers a 'say-so' either via a forum question of survey email.. please don't allow businesses that mass produce in China & then pawns it off as 'hand-made'.. please don't allow search to be compromised.. I have huge faith here.. and I've seen nothing but GOOD since joining.. hoping it stays simple, unique & a joy..

Hi Everyone,

We are still working on our site. We have found that all great things do take time. And, a lot of it. We have finished up with several pages but we also have to tie them all together.
We are again working with our design team to create more new selling pages, shop pages and checkout pages. Along with all of this, we are working on this as fast as possible.

We will try to have a better update on a timeline as soon as possible.

Thanks everyone for your continued support!

It will definitely be a bigger cut for them but, by raising my prices I won't lose as much.
It is a no win for sellers either way.

I don't believe that they won't be giving sellers (who buy into the tiers) better search views.
I bet they will at some point to force the rest to buy into it all.

I've had a basic eBay store for many years, and what I'm seeing Etsy doing more and more is picking features they like from eBay and implementing them on their own site.  I'm sure it has a lot to do with the CEO being a former eBay guy, but I can also imagine many conversations at Etsyland like "Well, eBay sellers pay for this, that, and the other, and they don't seem to mind.  Why can't we do that here and make more money for Etsy?"  I only need a Basic store on eBay for what I do, but for sellers who have larger businesses, their higher priced stores are needed.  They often offer all kinds of business-like assistance for those larger businesses that need that sort of thing.  I'm small enough that I handle everything on my own.  I've never had a problem with eBay's tiered system and if Etsy is simply offering larger businesses (who need various kinds of help because they are so busy) new ways to run their businesses more efficiently for a relatively small fee, I'm fine with that.  However, if this all turns into "pay for play" and we sellers see no benefits from it, then I will be thoroughly disgusted by the actions of Etsy.

Once again, I agree that this is a prime opportunity for ArtYah to show Etsy sellers greener pastures.  But I also understand that the new site cannot be rushed or forced, or we'll all be right back in the same position (convincing sellers to join only for them to get upset at lack of sales and leave).  It would be so cool if the new ArtYah could start up at the same time all the Etsy fees go into effect. 😃
